The Lake

Lake Hood, its park surroundings and Huntingdon Park - form the Ashburton Aquatic Park.

The park is situated 6 km South East of Tinwald with entry from State Highway One just to the south end
of Tinwald Township, and is open for all to enjoy.

The birth and growth of this new recreational facility is summarized by the Chairman of the Governing Board of Trustees on – The Amazing Story

Following construction, the Trustees elected to name the lake after a prominent local businessman - Doug Hood - in recognition of all the community contributions made by Doug during his life in the mid-Canterbury area.

Huntingdon Park is the name given to all of the lake side, residential living within the development and takes a very English character by design, due to the heritage of Ashburton town.

In excess of 80 hectares in area, 2,300 metres in length and over 1 kilometre wide – the lake comprises an 8 lane international rowing course, a separate water skiing area, as well as a seperate jet skiing area, plus sailing and kayaking, which can all be enjoyed on or around the lake simultaneously.

The pages of this site will take you for a walk through the Ashburton Aquatic Park and – we trust – invite you to come, visit and enjoy the activities available.

Perhaps you will feel so comfortable here... you may stay!
